Quality Awareness Campaign in Rural India with Bureau of Indian Standards

Objective:

To promote awareness and understanding of standards and quality among rural communities and school children through educational visits and interactive sessions.

Program Description:

In collaboration with Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), this initiative aims to reach out to villages across India to educate and sensitize citizens about the importance of standards in their daily lives. The campaign aims to sensitize schools, AnganwadiCentre’s, Gram Panchayats, Block and District level officials and employees through entertaining, informative and engaging workshops to help stakeholders understand how quality and standardization impact their everyday products and services. So far, Village Development Society has sensitized 9500 stakeholders in Haridwar district.

Key Activities:

1. Village Outreach:

  1. Visited villages to conduct awareness sessions.
  2. Used simple language and practical examples to explain the importance of BIS standards.
  3. Demonstrate how standardized products ensure safety, quality and value for money.
  4. Distributed informative pamphlets and posters in local languages.

2. School engagement:

  1. Organized interactive sessions and exhibitions in schools.
  2. Encouraged children to identify ISI-marked products in their surroundings.
  3. Organized quizzes, drawing competitions and model-building on the topic of quality and safety.
  4. Arranged educational field trips to BIS-recognized laboratories or manufacturing units, where possible.

3. Train the trainers:

  1. Trained local volunteers and teachers to become quality ambassadors.
  2. Provided them with resource kits and presentation materials.

Expected outcomes:

  1. Increased awareness about the importance of standards and ISI marks.
  2. More informed purchase decisions in rural areas.
  3. Developed quality conscious mindset among young students.
