Established on January 14, 1997, the Village Development Society (VDS) is a dynamic collective of young farmers, expert professionals, and dedicated members from various non-governmental organizations (NGOs). Our mission is to uplift and empower the weaker, exploited, and neglected sections of society through comprehensive legal awareness and support in areas such as health, education, livelihood, and equal participation.
From its inception, VDS has been driven by the voluntary efforts of passionate individuals committed to fighting social injustice and improving the quality of life in and around Haridwar. Our youth-led initiatives aim to strengthen the socio-economic fabric of the community, addressing critical issues such as education, health, and women’s empowerment among the socio-economically disadvantaged.
Despite the absence of initial financial assistance, VDS embarked on its mission with a focus on learning and growth within poor communities across Bhagwanpur, Roorkee, Narsan, Khanpur, and Bahadrabad blocks of Haridwar district. Our work has since expanded to include livelihood, health, education, and environmental activities in the districts of Udham Singh Nagar, Bageshwar, Almora, Chamoli, Uttarkashi, Tehri, Shamali, and Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh.
Our efforts are supported by various central and state government programs such as Swajal, and we have received recognition from prestigious organizations including UOCB, UBB, IWDP, UPASAK, NABARD, NRHM, DRDA, and DH & FWS Haridwar. Through these partnerships, VDS continues to strive for a more equitable and just society, empowering marginalized communities to achieve sustainable development and a better quality of life.
